Looking for the best hikes in beautiful Telluride? Telluride, Colorado – there’s a reason there are songs written about this place! If you have made it to this gorgeous mountain town in summer and are looking to stretch your legs, you’ve come to the right corner of the internet. There are plenty of options ranging from easy to hard. Just be sure to check trailhead parking beforehand, as some are fairly limited and require you to get dropped off or find other ways to them. You will also want take weather/the season into consideration. The hiking will be best from June to October, however you can do some winter hiking with spikes in the spring/late fall as well. Let’s dive in!

TELLURIDE RIVER TRAIL

If you’re looking for a nice stroll with beautiful scenery, start at the Telluride River Trail which is an easy 4 mile out and back hike with distant views of Bridal Veil Falls. This trail starts in the town of Telluride and meanders its way along the river towards Telluride Peak!

BRIDAL VEIL FALLS

Bridal Veil Falls Black Bear Pass Loop is an iconic Telluride hike and a great next option if you are looking for an up close and personal look at Bridal Veil Falls! This is a 3 mile moderate loop that really showcases the beauty found right in Telluride. Be sure to check the trailhead signs for information on property lines.

BEAR CREEK TRAIL

Bear Creek Trail is another moderate option with waterfalls and incredible views of Telluride and the surrounding mountains as well! It is a 4.5 mile out and back trail that starts near the Telluride town park! One thing I love about this trail is it’s literally right off of town. As you finish, you can walk right to a restaurant or brewery to refuel! It’s also an incredible option in the spring. Although you’ll be hiking in snow, the waterfall is quite the sight when frozen. Just pack your spikes if you plan to attempt this trail before June!

SEE FOREVER TRAIL

If you’re wanting more of a bird’s eye view of the area, check out the See Forever Trail! Trust me, it lives up to its name. There’s no parking at the trailhead, so you will have to ride the gondola to the top of Coonskin Mountain from Mountain Village and take off from there. It is absolutely worth the 5 mile moderate out and back hike to see views of the surrounding mountains from above the valley.

JUD WIEBE MEMORIAL TRAIL

If you’re looking for a 3 mile leg-burning loop look no further than the Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail. This will show you the Telluride valley from the north slope. Most people recommend hiking the loop clockwise for the views!!

The last two hikes we’ll go over take you up into beautiful alpine lakes!

BLUE LAKE

Blue Lake is a moderate to hard 6.5 mile out and back trail that is absolutely worth the effort! This is a trail where the views are stunning the entire time. You start at Bridal Veil Falls for both of these last two hikes and have mountain views the entire time. There’s just no way not to have a great hike!

SILVER LAKE

Last but certainly not least, we have Silver Lake! Trail conditions vary a bit on this trail, so be prepared for some possible creek crossings that might involve submerged shoes depending on season, and maybe a little mud here and there. Parking also varies depending on availability along the road to Bridal Veil Falls power station. Keep in mind that parking location could add on a bit to total mileage. Although this lake is a bit smaller than Blue Lake, the views are breathtaking and absolutely worth your efforts! Depending on where you are able to park, the trail is right around 3 miles out and back, with a pretty steep elevation gain.

Whatever adventure you choose to do in Telluride, it will be nothing short of magical. This town boasts quaint historical mountain charm everywhere you look. Not to mention, with easy access to waterfalls and mountain views in every direction, you’ll see why Telluride is a Colorado favorite! As always, remember to recreate responsibly and be respectful of both fellow visitors, and locals.
